While living in China, I arranged to have a language exchange partner so that I could improve me Mandarin. My partner who turned out to be a good looking girl called Eva, about 1.66m, 48kg, (5-6”, 106lbs.) 5 years younger than me (I’m 33 she’s was 28y/o), she wanted to improve her English so it was a good match.
Things started well. We would meet in a local cafes and take turns helping each other with our non-native language. We would choose a language and then talk about all sorts of things, from weather and what we like to do, to more personal things. One night we were practicing her English and she mentioned she loved to go shopping.
“What do you like to buy?” I asked her. “Shoes and boots,” she replied. She then thought a moment as if trying to remember a word. Eventually, she made a gesture with her hand before resorting back to Chinese. “Gao gen xie.” I knew the word. “High heels you mean?” “Yes,” she said as if in relief to finally hear the words she had been trying to remember.
