At 2 minutes after one on the morning of April 16th, the long corridors of The Chapman Institute were quiet. Neon tubes glowed softly in the early hours of the morning. The linoleum covered floor had been polished. Every room door was securely shut and locked. Each patient lay in his bed.
In room 113 Thomas Harlan lay awake. He was drenched in sweat. The screen above his head showed a picture fed by a camera in the nurses station. At The Chapman Institute, all the nurses were female and all the patients were male. The camera was positioned under the desk in the nurses station. It showed the legs and feet of whoever was on duty. At all times,
